Local Studies Collection

 The Local Studies section aims to systematically acquire, preserve and make available for use, a wide range of information about the Blue Mountains region, from earliest times to the present.

Books: An extensive collection of historical and recent publications is housed in the reading room and is accessible via the library online catalogue.
Pamphlets Files: newspaper clippings, brochures, leaflets, etc.
Newspapers: Historical and contemporary Blue Mountains newspapers are held on microfilm at Springwood Library.
Serials: magazines, journals, newsletters of local groups, etc.
Ephemera: postcards, menus, programs.
Maps: parish, town, tourist, subdivisions and plans etc.
Photographs: Over 4000 images are available online.

ACCESS
The Local Studies Collection is part of the Blue Mountains City Library Service and is located in historic Braemar House adjacent to the Central Library at Springwood. The collection contains rare and valuable items and is not for loan.

Enquiries from basic information to advanced research projects are always welcome; but we do not carry out personal research on behalf of clients. Access is normally available by appointment Mon-Thu - 10.00am to 5.00 pm.
Regular access for library members working on lengthy projects may be arranged via a Reader’s Ticket. See the Library page at the Council website for access to a range of online services.

DONATIONS
The Local Studies Librarian welcomes donations of suitable material, and is also keen to borrow items, such as photographs, for copying and return.
Over the years the Local Studies collection has benefited from donations, loans and bequests; however the library does reserve the right to evaluate all material and accept only that which is appropriate for the collection.
